2018 Latin America G3 currency bond issuance totaled USD 83bn

The volume for Latin America syndicated and club bonds in G3 currencies (USD, EUR, JPY) totalled USD 82.9bn via 109 deals in 2018, according to Debtwire Par. More than half of the full-year issuance was for refinancings, leaving around 47% of the overall bond issuance for new money purposes, which included USD 2.4bn M&A financings.

Sovereign governments raised the highest G3 bond volume in 2018, contributing USD 32.7bn total volume via 18 deals. Of the USD 32.7bn volume, the Republic of Argentina issued a total of USD 9bn US-dollar bonds. Meanwhile, energy-related companies and financial service companies raised the second and third highest issuance, totalling USD 23.4bn and USD 12.6bn, respectively. The top three sectors made up around 83% of the total Latin America G3 currency bond issuance.
